On The Bluff Studios (OTBS) was created by Samuel Williams (Director of Academic Technology Services and Innovation) and UP alumni Nick Huey (class of 2017) as a way to meet the growing demand for quality academic multimedia assets. In September of 2015 the team came together for the first time. The team brainstormed and came up with the name “On The Bluff Studios” and designed the two logos.
On The Bluff Studios is a project of Academic Technology Services and Innovation, a Division of Information Services, and supported by the Office of the Provost and the Vice President of Operations. OTBS is a student run multimedia design studio that has a focus on academic content. The projects can range from supporting instructional media to small marketing initiatives.
OTBS provides a valuable experience in project management, time management, teamwork and multimedia design. OTBS will maintain the IS motto of: We Listen, We Care, We Respond.
If I was to list my number one achievement while at the University of Portland this would be it!
Experiential Learning
OTBS has grown into a dynamic team or creators that get the opportunity to create and run a “startup” within a University. In a recent video posted on the Provost website Keaton Averman (founding member and former Team Lead) stated:

The last round of students that helped bring this idea to life are graduating this year. They have inspired me and humble me with their dedication to the studio and their passion. We try not to have titles of “student” or “boss”. In the studio we are all creators. Next year we start the year with a new cohort of creators. Three hired in the last month. The 8 that will come together next year will bring their energy to this project. I can’t wait to see what they create!! I ❤️OTBS
